JOHN NEWTON HOWITT (American, 1885-1958) THE DUCK POND. Large oil on canvas landscape has small pond in foreground scattered with swimming white ducks. Two people are beside water. Mountain background with grass covered banks and large willow tree on right side. Three crows fly in a cloud and blue sky. Signed lower left “John Newton Howitt”. Plaque on front of original gilt carved wood frame states “Hudson Valley Art Association Gold Medal for Oil”. Old label on back indicates title and location as “Under Cliffs at Matamoras PA” and “Old Road to Milford, PA”. Label indicates Winner of Medal of Honor at the above exhibition. . SIZE: 30” x 40”.
