SCARCE JAPANESE ARTILLERY CONTRACT SMITH & WESSON NEW MODEL #3 SINGLE ACTION REVOLVER. Cal. 44 Russian. SN 25558. It additionally has the Japanese serial number 400 on the butt. Blued finish with 7″ keyhole bbl with pinned Rocky Mountain style front sight and 2-piece smooth walnut grips. There are two rows of Japanese characters on the left side of the ejector rod housing and there is a lanyard loop stud hole in the butt through the original serial number. CONDITION: Fine, the bbl, ejector housing and top strap retain 95-96% dull original blue. The frame and sideplate retain about 70% original blue, dull with very fine pitting on the left side mixed with streaks of bright blue. The right side has a few scattered spots of light pitting, a couple of scratches, otherwise retains most of its dull original blue. The grip frame is mostly a dark patina and the lanyard loop is missing. The grips have had both escutcheons stripped and appear to have replacements. The cylinder is mostly dull original blue with some scattered light pitting. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bore. 4-53478 JR871 (2,000-3,500)
