SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1873 SADDLERING CARBINE. Cal. 45/70. SN 32325. 22” rnd bbl. Standard early markings on breechblock “MODEL / 1873 / eagle head over crossed arrows / US”. Lock has large eagle followed by “US / SPRINGFIELD / 1873”. Stepped rear sight is also an early feature, but stock is the later type with short wrist. No cartouche is visible. There is a sling ring and bar on left side of stock, and stacking swivel on bbl band. CONDITION: Gray/brown patina overall with light to moderate pitting, mostly on bbl. Stock has numerous dents and scratches, with some chips near buttplate. Mechanically good. Bore is poor. Edwards Collection 4-58469 FS113 (1,500-2,500)
