SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1870 TRAPDOOR RIFLE. Cal. 50/70. NSN. 32-5/8” rnd bbl. Beveled lockplate is dated 1863. Breechblock is marked “MODEL / 1870 / eagle head over crossed arrows / US”. Two unreadable cartouches are on left flat of stock. CONDITION: Light surface rust on bright surface of bbl. Gray/brown patina on balance of metal. Wood has numerous dents and dings, but is generally good. Mechanically good. Edwards Collection 4-58460 FS125 (1,000-2,000)
