C.H. KREINER (19th Century) THE LETTER. Oil on canvas colorful scene shows a French style interior room with young man and woman leaning on fireplace front with another woman in black seated beside. She has a handkerchief to her cheek and sits on a French style recamier. Dog sits beside. The fancy room setting has large painting, decorated mirror, chandelier, harp and other colorful items. The man reads from an open letter in his hand. Signed lower left with what appears to be “C.H.Kreiner 1883”. Housed in a magnificent gesso decorated deep frame having cornucopia and flowers. Frame has a label Fred’k Kerr’s & CNS, Picture Frames. PROVENANCE: Estate of Maria M. Viveiros, New Bedford, Massachusetts. SIZE: 29” x 20”. CONDITION: One patch to the back of the canvas.
