ATTRIBUTED TO FRANZ XAVIER BERGMAN (Austrian, 19th Century) “BUTCH”. A silvered bronze figural inkwell formed as the head of a bull-mastiff. Hinged head opens to reveal an inkwell, which is brass and glass. The collar has a hanging brass tag, which actually has two doors that open and reveal a frame for a picture or hair. No marks. Presently housed in a glass dome with wood base. REFERENCE: Art Bronzes by Forest pages 446-447, 10.60-10.61. SIZE: 6” h x 4-1/2” w. CONDITION: Very good. 9-95803 (4,500-6,500)
