FRANCOTTE H OR 25 QUALITY SIDE-PLATED BOXLOCK EJECTOR LIGHT GAME GUN. SN 21187. (ca. 1893) Cal. 12 Ga. 2-1/2″ Chambers. 26″ Damascus bbls are engraved “Von Lengerke & Detmold U.S. Agents New York” in unmatted portion of nicely machine matted concave game rib, with scroll engraved crossbolt extension. Action flats are stamped “Francotte Choke Bore” and show Belgian proofs. Side-plated boxlock action features non-automatic safety (“Safe” inlaid in gold, and visible through rectangular slot in long safety button), side clips, and Greener crossbolt third fastener. Action and sideplates are fully engraved with pleasing, very well cut, large open flowing acanthus with small open scroll background. Fences have semi-relief acanthus. Sideplates are also engraved “A Francotte Maker & Patentee Liege Belgium”. Matching trigger guard has SN on tang. Flesh-tone marbled and figured French walnut pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/2″ over red “Old English” pad. Checkering is at 26 LPI with single line border. Matching splinter forend has nearly full coverage of checkering and Anson release. Bore diameter: left -.734, right -.721. Bore restrictions: left -.030, right -.000. Wall thickness: left -.033, right -.034. Drop at heel: 3-1/8″, drop at comb: 1-13/16″. Weight: 6 lbs. 1 oz, LOP 14-1/2″. CONDITION: Fine. Bbls have been blacked, and retain nearly all of that black. Damascus is visible under forend. Engraving remains sharp. Action is coin finished, and remains mostly silver. Stocks have most of an old rubbed oil finish. Checkering has been re-cut.
