FOLLOWER OF ANDREA SACCHI (Italian, 1599-1661) SAINT ANDREW ADORING HIS CROSS. Oil on canvas laid to masonite scene shows an old man covered in yellow cloth reaching out while being held by a man wearing a white cloth with two soldiers behind. A figure is seen in lower left pointing in the same direction in a landscape leading to water. Housed in a 20th Century gesso decorated gilt frame. SIZE: 71″ x 47-1/2″. PROVENANCE: From a large Boston, MA area Estate. CONDITION: The Estate has informed us that the owner had all old restoration and inpainting removed so that an attribution could be made of the original paint surface. In doing so it revealed that the painting was in two vertical pieces and appear to have been stitched together. The painting needs restoration due to the removal of all old restoration. 9-99300 (1,500-2,500)
