WILLIAM LOUIS SONNTAG (American, 1822-1900) ADIRONDACK SUNSET. Outstanding oil on canvas panoramic landscape scene shows a small pond lined with rocks and bushes leading to a hillside down to a valley floor with water and mountains beyond. Trees flank the scene in fine detail with a flock of birds flying against the sunset sky which colors from light blue to rose with highlights in bright yellow and gold. Signed lower right “W L Sonntag”. Housed in an outstanding gesso decorated gilt period frame with gilt liner. SIZE: 20″ x 36″. CONDITION: Relined with only scattered minor inpainting. 9-20395 (8,000-12,000)
