LEMUEL MAYNARD WILES (American, 1826-1905) “THE OLD PIPPIN TREE”. Outstanding oil on canvas scene shows large apple tree with family gathering apples. Man stands on tall picking ladder with bushel basket. Wife and two children in colorful costume fill baskets with gathered apples on ground. A path goes beside this large apple tree and proceeds near fence leading to house in valley. Signed lower right “L.M. Wiles 1878”. Also titled and signed on back of canvas. Housed in an outstanding gesso decorated period frame. SIZE: 18-1/2”x 15-1/4”. CONDITION: Very good, minor touch up. 9-94584 (25,000-35,000)
