*VERY FINE BOSS & CO SIDELOCK EJECTOR SINGLE TRIGGER GAME GUN WITH CASE. SN 7719. (ca. 1929) Cal.12 Ga. 2-3/4″ Chambers. 30″ Chopper lump barrels are engraved “Boss & Co. 13, Dover Street, Piccadilly, London. W.” and “Made in England” on narrow concave game rib, with scroll engraving at breech end. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with SN. Bbl flats show London nitro proofs for 2-1/2″ chambers. Sidelock action is stocked to the fences, and features automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), bushed strikers, gold line tumbler end cocking indicators, and Boss non-selective single trigger. Action and lockplates have 80% coverage of very nicely cut bouquet and scroll Boss house style engraving. Most likely this is the work of Jack Sumner, noted Boss engraver. Lockplates are engraved “Boss & Co.” Trigger plate is engraved “Boss’s Patent” “No. 22894″ referring to the single trigger. Small bow single beaded trigger guard is scroll engraved with SN in relief on tang. Nicely marbled European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 15-1/4” over thin leather-faced Silvers pad. Stock features a gold oval with “E.S.M” engraved, drop points, and 24 LPI standard point pattern checkering with mullered borders. Matching splinter forend has Anson release. SN is on iron. Bore diameter: left -.730, right -.730. Bore restrictions: left -.020, right -.008. Wall thickness: left -.024, right -.032. Drop at heel: 2″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight: 6 lbs. 11.8 oz, LOP 15-1/4″. Leather case has maroon cloth interior, with W. Richards Liverpool paper label. Accessories include W. Richards Liverpool marked crystal oil bottle, pair of 12 ga. snap caps, old shaving brush, and tube of Hoppe’s gun grease. CONDITION: Excellent. Bbls retain 95% of what appears to be original blue, silvering slightly at muzzles, and thinning on sides around forend, with a number of small marks from handling and use. Action retains 60-70% original case color, silvering on fences and beads, thinning on bottom of action. Lockplates retain 80% of their original color, thinning at edges, and there is evidence of some cleaning around tails. Top lever and trigger guard retain a considerable amount of their original blue, with thumbpiece of lever, edges and bead of guard, silvered. Guard tang is mostly silver, browning toward tail. Wood retains most of its original oil finish, with numerous slight marks and dents, with extra oil rubbed in over the years. Checkering shows slight wear, and needs a good cleaning. Original pad is squashed, and petrified. There is a long narrow sliver of wood missing from right side of forend where it meets the barrel. It is not objectionable. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are in time. Trigger works well. Bores are excellent. Screw heads show some use. Case is fine, leather slightly darkening, with numerous rubs and scrapes. One strap is missing its tip, the other is getting tired. Handle is good. Interior cloth shows some moth damage, and tatters from contact with action. Label is good, with some slight stains and foxing. Oil bottle is very fine, but full of dark, congealed oil. A lovely, honest gun which has been in storage for many years, and needs a bit of TLC. 4-39789 MGM99 (22,500-30,000)
