CHARLES EPHRAIM BURCHFIELD (American, 1893-1967) “ROAD BY THE CASINO”. Black & white pencil on paper preliminary drawing shows a two-story building on the side of a winding road. Large letters on the front of the building reads “The Casino” and “Mell’s Place” on the side. A vintage car is parked along the edge of the road which is lined with trees and shrubs. “C.E. Burchfield Foundation” stamp lower left numbered “B-198″. A color coding chart on bottom right. Kennedy Galleries, Inc. label affixed to back with title, artist name, medium and stock #. Housed in a modern silver frame with beige matte. An important early work from 1916. His method of working at the time was to draw the subjects during the day and then paint them at night, using the color notes he made. SIZE: 13-3/4″ x 19-1/2”.
