J W BROWN (American, 19th/20th Century) A BOY’S BEST FRIEND. Oil on canvas scene shows a young boy in tattered clothes and bare feet seated on a stair at street level with his dog sitting beside him. The dog appears to be consoling him. Very much in the style of JG Brown street urchin painting. Signed lower left “JW Brown”. Housed in its original fancy gilt gesso decorated frame. SIZE: 20″ x 16″. PROVENANCE: Private Boston are collection. CONDITION: Craquelure, stretcher marks, otherwise very good. 9-97827 (500-1,000)
