JOHN CHARLES MAGGS (1819-1996) “LONDON TO PLYMOUTH”. Oil on canvas scene shows a four-horse team pulling a large stagecoach laden with people & luggage. A horse & rider ride beside as they come up on a covered wagon pulled by two horses. In the distance is a large city. The coaches door has writing “London to Plymouth”. Signed lower left “J C Maggs 1873″. Housed in a good gesso decorated frame with gilt liner. SIZE: 13-3/4″ x 26-3/4”. PROVENANCE: Woolworth Family, (F.W. Woolworth Department Store). CONDITION: Light craquelure, surface dirt. Otherwise very good. 9-24668 (1,500-2,500)
