*PHILIPP REEB RELIEF ENGRAVED CLAMSHELL ACTION DOUBLE RIFLE WITH SCOPE. SN 3387. Cal. 8 x 57 JR. Double triggers (Both set). Non automatic safety. 24-1/2″ Chopper lump bbls are engraved “Ima. Guss Stahl” “Fr. Krupp, Essen” around breeches w/ 1-1/2″ triangles of finely executed scroll engraving. Flat machine matted full length rib has claw mount bases, single standing rear sight, and longitudinally dovetailed silver bead front, and is inlaid in gold “Philipp Reeb, Hofbuchsenmacher, Bonn”, and has a square shouldered dolls head rib extension. Bottoms of bbls have German proofs for 7.8mm and are stamped “8 x 57” and “Krupp.” There’s a sling loop screwed to bottom rib. Clamshell box lock action has dual under lugs, and a cross bolt third fastener, pin cocking indicators, and intercepting safety sears. Fences are nicely fluted. Action has 60% coverage of fine closed scroll w/ nicely relief engraved vignettes of dying stag on left side, and a pair of wild boar on bottom right. Monogram “JTS” (?) is relief inlaid in gold in an oval w/ stippled background on bottom of action. Trigger guard is horn. Triggers are finely checkered. “Sicher” is inlaid in gold in front of safety button. Nicely marbled dark European walnut semi pistol grip buttstock measures 13-7/8″ over checkered horn butt plate and features right handed cheek piece, heart to arrow shaped inlaid horn drop points, relief floral carved side panels w/stippled background, 28 LPI checkering w/ double line border, sling loop, and beautifully relief engraved cartridge trap for four cartridges, featuring a roebuck in woodland scene. Splinter forend has Deeley release, horn tip, and checkering to match buttstock. Drop at heel: 2-5/8″, drop at comb:1-1/2″. Weight: 9 lbs w/ scope, Weight without scope: 7 lbs 12 oz. SCOPE is a Kahles Helia Super 1-1/2 – 4-1/2 variable w/ duplex reticle, has professionally fitted claw mounts which match bbls perfectly. PROVENANCE: Dr. Frank Miller Collection. CONDITION: Very good. Bbls retain nearly all professional re-black, some areas of pitting did not polish out. Action is silver to gray. Stocks show most of old oil finish. Trigger guard has small chip at left front. Cartridge trap has 30% orig blue on cover. Checkering has been re-cut. Forend has a repair on left front. Bores are very good, bright and shiny w/ some erosion in throat. Action is tight. SCOPE is excellent. 4-35650 MGM97 (10,000-15,000)
