*BEAUTIFUL DELUXE WILLIAM EVANS DOUBLE RIFLE. Cal. 400/360 2-3/4”. SN 14350. Fine medium game rifle with 26” bbls, pedestal mounted front sight, missing the hood with a pop-up moon sight and 3-leaf express sight marked “50-200 YARDS” mounted on a serrated quarter rib with doll’s head rib extension/third bite, ejectors, dbl underbites and dbl triggers. It is nitro-proofed for 40 grains cordite and 300 grain bullet. Mounted with extremely beautiful, highly figured, flat checkered, slab sawed walnut with splinter forearm that has lever latch & pistol grip stock with raised teardrop side panels & deep cheekpiece, 15” over a solid red pad that has been added without altering the wood. Bbls have a safari sling eye with a corresponding sling eye on buttstock along with a blank gold initial oval. It has a long bottom tang that terminates at metal grip cap. Boxlock receiver is beautifully engraved with about 80% coverage, very high quality, foliate arabesque patterns. It has maker’s name on each side. Drop at heel: 2-3/8”, drop at comb: 1-1/2”. Weight: 9 lbs. 8.32 oz. CONDITION: Very fine to extremely fine. Retains virtually all of a professionally restored finish to both metal & wood, probably by one of the fine English makers such as the William Evans Company, Holland & Holland or Purdey’s. Bbl blue is fine rust bluing with brilliant bone charcoal case colors on receiver. Floorplate & triggerguard are possibly still in orig finish. Wood is sound with minor nicks & scratches.
