*SPECTACULAR R. G. OWEN SPRINGFIELD ACTION CUSTOM RIFLE PROFUSELY ENGRAVED BY RUDOLPH KORNBRATH. SN 607. Cal. 30-06. 24″ Round bbl is marked “R. G. Owen, Sauquoit. N.Y. Springfield Sporting Rifle Cal. 30-06 #607″ and features 3-1/2″ triangles of nicely executed scroll at breech end, banded sling eye which is scroll engraved, and a banded front ramp w/ longitudinally dove-tailed gold bead caterpillar sight. The ramp is covered in beautifully executed scroll on sides and around band, w/ scroll border on bbl terminating in 1-1/4” scroll triangle. Action is fitted w/ Lyman 48 receiver sight, and Griffin and Howe type scope mount. All parts of sights and action are profusely engraved w/ well executed scroll. Case hardened bolt stop is beautifully relief engraved w/ flowers, a Kornbrath signature. Case hardened safety lever is checkered w/ “Ready” and “Safe” inlaid in silver. Bolt handle is scroll engraved and the knob is checkered. Bolt body, extractor, and follower are nicely engine turned. Firing pin has been altered so as not to have a cocking knob. Case hardened, hinged, button release floor plate has two wonderfully detailed relief engraved scenes; one depicting a pair of wolves in woodlands; the other depicting a grizzly bear guarding a fallen elk. These scenes are surrounded w/ scroll. Six flowers are centered between the 2 scenes. Nicely filed and shaped trigger guard bow is scroll engraved, and also has an oval w/ nicely detailed relief engraved grizzly bear. There are 3 relief engraved flowers, and scroll behind the front action screw. Action screws are engraved w/ burst of feather motif. Trap grip cap is fully relief engraved w/ decorative bands; one being acanthus leaves alternating w/ flowers. Trap cover has 4 relief acanthus motifs. Trigger is checkered. Beautifully figured and marbled Circassian walnut stock measures 13-3/4″ over a checkered and engraved steel trap butt plate, has a vacant gold shield, and wide sling eye on toe line. Stock features beautifully executed 26 LPI borderless checkering in a point pattern on the grip. Checkering on the forend wraps completely around w/ areas left uncheckered for a very pleasing effect. It also has a horn forend tip, and R.G. Owen signature arrowhead drop points in front of grip, as well as, a nicely shaped double beaded cheek piece. Griffin and Howe scope mount w/ windage adjustment is fitted w/ “Hensoldt – Wetzlar Ziel- Dialyt 2-3/4” power SCOPE w/ cross hair and post reticle and is engraved w/ scroll matching the rest of action. Rifle comes w/ good quality leather sling, and swivels. CONDITION: Excellent. Bbl and action retain virtually all of their very high quality rust blue. Bolt stop and safety retain all of their case color. Case color on floor plate is silvering slightly. Stock retains virtually all of its rubbed oil finish. Bore is excellent, bright and shiny. Scope optics are bright and clear. A spectacular piece by two of the best workmen of their time. 4-33814 MGM66 (20,000-30,000)
