LARGE FRENCH OR SWISS STEEL CASE OPEN FACE POCKET WATCH WITH BUFFALO BILL PRESENTATION. About 20 size, “Regulateur” enamel face, button set, stem wind, open face pocket watch with green enameled numbers and a very early steam locomotive in center. It has thick, beveled crystal with a decorative white metal bezel. The outside back cover is missing. The outside of the inside back cover is inscribed in period French script engraving “Pour Cher Hon. Mssr. W.F. Cody / De Dame Rosa Bonheur” around outside edge. Center is inscribed “Paris / Avril 1889 / Merci”. Rosa Bonheur (1822-1899) was and still is, a world famous artist who painted Cody’s favorite portrait of him sitting astride his white horse in full performance regalia. CONDITION: As noted, good. The face has several hairlines with a couple of small chips and the crystal has a couple of small chips. The exposed inside cover is fine with all the inscription sharp & legible. The watch movement seems to run fine but probably needs cleaning. An even more rare Buffalo Bill watch as it is a direct presentation. 4-30618 JR285 (20,000-30,000)
