*CHRISTOPH FUNK OVER UNDER COMBO BOLT ACTION RIFLE WITH SCOPE. SN 37467. Cal. 7 x 57R / 22 LR. Very unusual combination of standard bolt action rifle w/ small caliber for light game. 24-1/2″ Round rifle bbl has one standing, 1 folding rear, and silver bead front on matted ramp, and is stamped “Christoph Funk, Suhl” on top, w/ 1982 London proof marks for 7 x 57. Small caliber secondary rifle bbl is mounted underneath w/ unusual hinged and rotating bolt for loading and securing 22 cartridge, which is cocked by pushing forward a thumb piece at left rear of action. Cocking indicator/ de-cocking button protrudes from left side of stock. 22 Cartridge is fired by rear trigger. This mechanism has German B and U proofs on hinged breech block and rotating carrier. Although Ludwig Olson illustrates two different styles of Mauser combination rifles in his book, “Mauser Bolt Rifles,” this variation is not described. Commercial quality action stamped on left side of receiver ring w/ SN “37467” and has B and U proofs. Top of action has typical German claw bases. Bolt has unusually long handle w/ checkered panels top and bottom of knob. Bottom metal has lever release hinged floor plate stamped w/ triangular logo marked “Chr Funk 1835″ and steel shotgun type trigger guard. Front trigger is set. Pistol grip stock measures 14-1/4″ over 3/8” checkered horn butt plate installed over another, probably original, horn butt plate, and features 28 LPI checkering w/ double line borders. Forend wood attaches to bbl w/ screw giving access to small caliber bbl. Weight w/ scope: 9 lbs 3oz. SCOPE is a Carl Zeiss Zielvier w/ 3 post and dot reticle and leather covers, w/ soldered claw mounts, which appear to be original to rifle. PROVENANCE: Dr. Frank Miller Collection. CONDITION: Fine, as restored. Metal retains virtually all good quality rust re-black. Stock retains virtually all of varnish refinish. Checkering is good. 7mm Bore is strong w/ slight erosion in throat, mostly bright and shiny. 22 Bore is good. SCOPE appears to be original to gun, is fine w/ clear optics. 4-35633 MGM125 (7,500-12,500)
