HOLLAND AND HOLLAND SINGLE SHOT TOP LEVER HAMMER STALKING RIFLE. SN 19545. Cal. 35 Winchester. 28″ Ovate bbl. is engraved “Holland & Holland, 98 New Bond Street London.” and “Winners of all the “Field” Rifle Trials 1883″. Top rear of bbl is file cut and has platinum lined express sight w/ one standing, 2 folding leaves w/ additional ladder sight out to 600 yds. White bead front is mounted on file cut ramp. Sling eye soldered to bbl. Bottom of bbl has London black powder proofs w/ SN “19545” and “303”. Bbl is also stamped “35VP”, probably barrel reborer Van Patten. Left side is engraved “Calibre .350 Winchester”, right side “Charge 48 1/2 gr. N. C.” Case hardened action has dual under lugs, w/ about 30% coverage of scroll engraving. Peninsula back action lock w/ front stalking safety, has a long tapered extension down through grip area to the grip cap. Engraved w/ large open shaded scroll and “Holland & Holland.” Left side has a matching plate engraved w/ bugling stag, and “Holland & Holland.” Top tang extends over the comb. Blued trigger guard has scroll and SN engraved on grip, and extends to grip cap. Light colored slightly streaked European walnut full pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/8″ over a checkered steel trap butt plate w/ space for 3 cartridges under trap, and features typical Holland style right hand cheek piece, vacant silver oval, steel grip cap, and sling eye w/ coarse borderless checkering. Lever release splinter forend has horn tip w/ checkering to match buttstock. Drop at heel: 3-3/8″, drop at comb: 2-1/8″. Weight: 7 lbs 8oz. PROVENANCE: Dr. Frank Miller Collection. CONDITION: Fine as restored. Bbls retain virtually all high quality rust blue. Action and locks have virtually all high quality re-case color. Trigger guard and top lever have all of their re-blue. Stocks have most of a glossy finish w/ few nicks and dings. Butt plate is replacement. Bore is excellent. Action is loose and bbl off face. Lock is crisp. 4-35632 MGM106 (3,000-5,000)
