*FINE HAENEL AYDT GERMAN SCHUTZEN RIFLE. SN NSN. Cal. 8.15x46R. Beautiful Schutzen rifle with 31-1/2″ medium weight oct bbl, ramp front sight, missing its caterpillar insert. Top flat of bbl & quarter rib are nicely matted, missing the sight. Top tang has a pedestal for a Schutzen style sight which is also missing. Mounted with nicely colored straight grain walnut with semi-schnable tipped forearm & heavy left-hand Schutzen buttstock with deep scalloped cheekpiece on right side & thumb rest on left side. Stock & forearm are beautifully deep relief carved with foliate & floral patterns with checkered wrist & checkering pattern behind thumb rest. Both sides of stock, where it meets the receiver, are carved with beautiful half flower blossoms. Buttplate is typical Schutzen style with short heel tang & medium bottom prong. Receiver is most unusually engraved with large vignette of a lady shooter dressed in German costume wearing a hat with feather plume with her Schutzen rifle on a sling over her left shoulder & holding a target in her right hand. Right side is typically engraved of a Bavarian gentleman in turn-of-the-century Bavarian costume with feather plumed hat, jacket & cravat holding a Calabash pipe in his right hand & a stein in his left hand with great detail in engraving. He is leaning his right elbow on corner of a table & has trees in background all with a very finely stippled overall background. Balance of both sides of receiver, all three flats over top, top of breech block, top tang & lever are engraved to match, again all with very fine stippled background. It has dbl set triggers & a Schutzen style finger rest trigger guard. Bottom of bbl has “BUG” proofs & date “8.27” indicating manufacture August 1927. Top left flat of bbl has the eagle & crown “N” nitro proof & right side of receiver has “BU” & crown “N” proofs. Altogether a very beautiful & unusual lefthand Schutzen rifle. Accompanied by a period German leather sling. CONDITION: Extremely fine, sights missing as noted. Bbl retains about 99% strong orig bright blue. All other metal retains about all of its strong orig case colors, moderately faded, brilliant in sheltered areas. Wood is sound with very minor handling & use marks and retains virtually all of a lightly cleaned orig finish. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore. Sling is fine. 4-33454 JR443 (3,000-5,000)
