GEORGE LAFAYETTE CLOUGH (American, 1824-1901) “VIEW NEAR GLEN COVE, L.I. 1866”. Fine unsigned oval oil on canvas landscape scene shows a pond with cows and horses and a connected farmhouse beyond nestled between two small hills. There is a gentleman rowing two women holding parasols on the right portion of the pond and a rowboat has been pulled up on shore in the foreground. A wonderful blue sky with white clouds finish the landscape. Housed in its original carved walnut frame. The title is written on the back of canvas and dated. This painting was found as one of a pair of oval paintings identically framed, both titled on reverse of canvas, this one being unsigned and the other with full signature. SIZE: 22″ x 30″. CONDITION: Three canvas patches to reverse with corresponding inpainting, edge has been strip lined. Very good. 9-91620 (10,000-15,000)
