ATTRIBUTED TO WILLIAM MERRITT CHASE (American, 1849-1916) STILL LIFE WITH APPLES AND BRASS EWER. Oil on canvas still life scene shows a table top with two handled brass shallow bowl having six red apples. A tall brass ewer stands beside a green glass bowl with saucer and partially peeled orange with white tablecloth. Signed lower left “WM Chase”. Housed in a fine gilt gesso decorated frame. Old partial label on stretcher “Henry M. Taw___? Philadelphia”. “Warhol Collection receipt label on frame with stamped Warhol name. NOTE: We have been told that this was included in a June 1970 exhibition at the Gallery of Modern Art in New York, which included the Huntington-Hartford Collection. PROVENANCE: Sotheby’s 1988, Warhol Collection Lot #953. SIZE: 20” x 30”. CONDITION: Old relining, very good. 9-98004 (10,000-15,000)
