RARE AND IMPORTANT LIFE SIZED ZINC GARDEN STATUE OF A RECLINING POINTER BY JANES, KIRTLAND & COMPANY. This fabulous 19th C. zinc figure of a reclining pointer is highly detailed and very well cast. The alert pointer with head high lies on its original cast iron rectangular base. One leg drapes over the end. Zinc and iron statuary and ornaments were extremely popular in the mid- to latter 19th C.. Janes, Kirtland was a specialty firm producing high-quality iron and zinc statuary such as this example. Orig life-sized zinc figures, particularly of sporting dogs, are extremely rare. This particular model is Illustration No. 73 in the Ornamental Iron Work Catalog of Janes, Kirtland & Company, dated 1870, and thus dates to some time in that era. An identical statue of this dog was sold by our firm in April 2002. That example had a restored base; this one, however, still has its orig, unrestored base. .SIZE: Pointer is approx. 16-1/4” wide and 27” long. Base is 3” high, 16” wide, and 26-1/2” long.
