CASED WEBLEY R.I.C. NEW MODEL DA REVOLVER. SN 32810. Cal. 476 CF. Blue finish with 4-1/2″ ovoid shaped bbl, German silver front sight & grooved rear sight in top strap. Top strap is marked “W. RICHARDS / 27 OLD HALL STREET LIVERPOOL”. Left front side of frame has Webley winged bullet logo along with the model & caliber markings. Fitted with checkered 1-pc walnut grip and has a lanyard stud & ring in butt cap. Accompanied by an orig English oak, blue felt lined casing, compartmented in bottom for revolver, a beautiful crystal & pewter oil bottle, a turn screw & a cartridge block holding eighteen rds. Right rear corner is an open compartment. Top of lid has usual brass disc insert engraved “LIEUTENANT DOUGLAS CLARIS R.N. / HMS THSTLE (sic)”. A Google search turned up several different British warships named “Thistle”, however nothing was learned about any of the ships’ crews. PROVENANCE: Dr. Frank Miller Estate Collection. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Overall retains 93-95% strong glossy orig blue with loss areas flaked, not worn, to light patina. Grips are crisp showing little or no wear. Ejector rod retaining screw is missing, otherwise mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bore, appears to be unfired. Case is equally fine with a couple of light stains on lid & light soil in interior & minor wear from revolver. Accessories are fine. 4-36213 JR309 (2,000-3,500)
