19TH CENTURY GERMAN HUNTING SWORD WITH GOERING FAMILY CREST. Rare & unusual old German hunting sword 33-1/2″ overall with a 28″ slightly curved blade. Blade is flat ground with single unstopped fuller & 6-3/4″ back grind. It has a 3-1/2″ cast brass serpentine shaped handguard with birdhead quillions & a dark aged crown stag handle with a twisted brass wire ferrule. The butt of crown has a 3/4″ brass shield bearing the Goering family crest of a raised arm in armor holding a wreath or ring. Scabbard is missing. CONDITION: Very fine to extremely fine. Blade has a coating of old dried oil or possibly some varnish with no evidence of ever having been sharpened. Crossguard & grip are extremely fine. 4-35560 (4,000-6,000)
