MARTIALLY MARKED COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER. Cal. 45 Colt. SN 140357. Usual configuration with 7-1/2” bbl and 1-pc walnut grip. It has 2-line patent dates on left side of frame and a small “US” below cyl. It has “RAC” sub-inspector initials on frame & bottom of bbl. Triggerguard & backstrap, along with the tip of ejector rod housing & beside bbl stud have a small “K”. Cyl has “DFC” sub-inspector initials with an indecipherable serial number that could possibly be “7683”. Accompanied by a Colt Factory letter identifying this revolver has having been manufactured in 1891. Also accompanying is a notarized letter from consignor which states that he inherited this revolver from his step-father, Eugene LeRoy Hutto on Feb. 17, 1957. He states that Mr. Hutto told him that he had carried it as a mounted policeman while with the Hopewell, Virginia Police Department in the 1915-1920 era. Consignor also states that it has been in his possession continuously since 1957. CONDITION: Very good to fine, all matching including grip, with exception of the cyl as previously mentioned. Bbl retains 40-50% thin orig blue with some scattered fine pitting. Areas of loss have been cleaned and now have a light patina. Front sight has a couple of dings on top. Frame has traces of case colors with balance turned silver. Hammer retains about 75% fading case colors. Frame screws are fine with front triggerguard screw slightly battered. Cyl retains about 50% thin restored blue, mostly in flutes with balance a light blue/brown patina. Cyl pin is a later replacement. Matching numbered grip shows moderate to heavy wear with some chipping on right toe and battering on bottom with nicks & scratches and a dark oil stain. Hammer will not hold in safety notch, otherwise mechanics are fine, very bright shiny bore. 4-30088 JR105 (7,500-12,500)
