*SCARCE COLT 1ST MODEL 1911A1 SEMI-AUTO MILITARY PISTOL. SN 703158. Cal. 45 ACP. Scarce 1924 produced 1911A1 with usual slide markings and fixed sights. Left side of frame has the “WTG” (Maj. Walter T. Gorton) inspector initials above magazine release. Right side has “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” above serial number. It has short checkered trigger with the 1911A1 relief cuts by trigger, a long hammer spur & long grip safety spur with checkered mainspring housing & full checkered walnut grips. Bbl is very early with intertwined “HP” proofs perpendicular to bore. Accompanied by an orig “R” code 2-tone magazine. There were only 10,000 of these pistols produced in 1924 and production was not resumed until 1937. Since they were in inventory prior to WWII most of them saw hard service throughout WWII and Korea. CONDITION: Fine. Overall retains most of a fine professionally restored finish with all markings intact & legible. Grips are sound showing light wear on right side & moderate wear on left side, mostly at bottom edge. Mechanics are fine, strong bright bore with some very fine frosting. 4-35058 JR168 (1,750-2,750)
