STEUBEN CIRE PERDUE PLAQUE. Extremely rare Frederick Carder cire perdue plaque is cast in the likeness of Isabelle Lee. The heavily cast three dimensional plaque is beautifully executed with nice facial details and textured background. The glass has an internal wispy decoration at the shoulder which gives the appearance of a flowing silk scarf. Cire perdue: The cire perdue process is a “Lost Wax” casting of glass. When Frederick Carder stepped down as the head of Steuben, he stayed on as artistic director and spent much of his time working to perfect the cire perdue process. While he was able to create many wonderful pieces the process did not lend itself to commercial production and as a result very few pieces are known outside of museums. SIZE: 12-1/2″ x 9″ x approx. 3-1/2″ deep at widest point. PROVENANCE: Thomas Dimitroff CONDITION: Very good to excellent. 5-68787 (18,000-20,000)
