DONALD TEAGUE (EDWIN DAWES) (AMERICAN, 1897 – 1991) “WHO FOLLOWS THE HUNTER”. This gouache illustration for “Who Follows the Hunter” published Colliers December 23, 1944. Outstanding gouache illustration shows a young blond woman just arriving on her white and black horse outside a log cabin where a young man has come out and he’s making himself more presentable by tucking in his shirt. a dog looks on to the conversation. Inscribed and signed lower right. Housed in a modern gilt and ebonized gilt wood frame with white mat. NOTE: Accompanying the lot will be the Collier’s Issue which includes a 2/3 page color illustration of this painting. The story was written by Sigman Byrd. SIZE: Sight Size: 18″ x 20″. PROVENANCE: Gifted by the artist to Washington, D.C., cartoonist, Francis Fendley, 1944. Gifted to his girlfriend Virginia Hudgins and by descent to the current consignor.
