*VERY RARE ENGRAVED BERGMANN MODEL 1907 KARABINER SEMI-AUTO CARBINE. Cal. 7.8 mm Bergmann. SN 34. Rare and unusual Karabiner with 14” shrouded bbl with raised smooth full-length rib on the shroud. It has a long bead front sight with articulated ivory bead night sight and a fixed rear sight. The top is inlaid in gold script, “Th. Bergmann – Gaggenau” and has a long dash at each end of the inlay. There is a narrow gold band at the muzzle and two wide gold bands at the chamber end. The receiver and magazine box are beautifully engraved in foliate & floral arabesque patterns with two demons on the left side. The trigger guard & hammer are engraved to match. The top of the bolt is gold inlaid in block script “KARABINER BERGMANN / PATENT BREVETTE S.G.D.G.” and the rear of the bolt has script inlay “TB”. This is thought to be the initials of the manufacturer and may have been his personal carbine. It is fitted with straight grain walnut stock and extended forearm. The forearm and wrist are checkered and the stock has a round knob with cheekpiece and serrated pressed horn buttplate. It is fitted with sling swivels. CONDITION: Very fine. All numbers observed are matching. Metal retains 95-97% rust blue with light edge wear and some thinning over the chamber area. Magazine release retains about 50% niter blue and the hammer about 95% straw colors. Tang screw is slightly battered and the forend screw has screwdriver marks. Wood is sound with a couple of dings in the stock and a bruise on the forearm, otherwise retains most of its oil finish. Mechanics are fine, strong bright bore with light pitting. This is an extremely rare and desirable carbine that would make a fine addition to anyone’s collection. 4-50929 JR882 (30,000-50,000)
