*WILLIAM EVANS FROM PURDEYS DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 2016. Fine, high quality, lightweight double with 28-1/8” bbls choked MOD/IMP/CYL. With concave smooth tapered rib with single brass bead and the maker’s name with London address. It has a beautifully engraved boxlock receiver and very nicely figured English walnut with straight stock and splinter forearm, both checkered at about 20 lines per inch. It has dbl triggers & extractors and the stock is 14-5/8” over a checkered butt. The receiver has about 60% coverage with extremely fine, English arabesque pattern engraving with oak leaf & acorn patterns on the fences with stippled background. Each side of the receiver is engraved “WILLIAM EVANS / FROM PURDEY’S / LONDON”. The bbls have double lump with doll’s head third bite. The opening lever, rib, trigger guard and forend iron are engraved with a large “1”. The top tang has “SAFE” inlaid in gold. Weight 6 lbs. 0.4 oz. Drop at the heel 3-1/2”, and at the comb 1-1/2”. CONDITION: Very fine, as restored, with the bbls retaining about 98% strong bright re-blacking. Receiver retains 30-40% muted case colors with the balance turned silver. Lower tang has a repaired crack through the front screw hole. Stock is a recent replacement of good quality and decent fit and the wood retains most of its fine custom finish.
