PRESENTATION WILLIAM CASHMORE DBL BBL PIGEON GUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 10329. Very fine high grade shotgun, 32” steel bbls, choked FULL/FULL, with tapered matted rib and one ivory bead. The bbls are marked with the maker’s name & address, various awards and that they are made from “Whitworth Fluid Compressed Steel”. The bbl water table is proofed 1-1/4 oz. and the center rib is marked “3-1/4 IN CASES”. It has beautifully grained marble cake French walnut wood with full checkered forearm & pistol grip stock, 14” over an old crystallized thin rubber pad. It has dbl triggers & ejectors and is built on an unusual boxlock receiver with single lug and third bite with outside hook latches on each side of the reinforced receiver and is made without a safety. The receiver, forend iron, top & bottom tangs and opening lever are beautifully engraved in extremely fine bank note arabesque patterns. Each side of the receiver has the maker’s name inlaid in gold, the floorplate has extensive patterns of gold wire inlay with some tiny flowers. The top of the receiver, lever & top tang have matching gold wire inlays and the breech end of the rib is inlaid in gold with the maker’s name and “Nitro Patent”. The fences have relief carved scallops and have floral engraved patterns. The right side of the buttstock has a 2-3/4” oval gold plaque which is inscribed “PRESENTED BY WM. CASHMORE, BIRMINGHAM, ENG. / TO THE / HON. THOMAS A. MARSHALL, KEITHSBURG IL. U.S.A. / IN COMMEMORATION OF HIS TWICE WINNING / THE GRAND AMERICAN HANDICAP / (1897 – 1899) / WITH A CASHMORE GUN”. Weight 7 lbs. 12.5 oz. Drop at the heel 2-1/2”, at the comb 1-5/8”. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbls retain most of a very fine professional re-blacking. Receiver retains most of its original subtle English case colors. Top & bottom tangs are a brown patina. Two small pieces of gold are missing from the inlay. Wood is sound and retains most of a professionally restored finish. Bright shiny bores with some slight scuffing. Estate of John Delph. 4-51447 JR748 (2,000-3,000)
