*RARE COLT NAVY MODEL 1911 SEMI-AUTO MILITARY PISTOL. SN 43355. Cal. 45 ACP. Blue finish with usual configuration & markings with “1911” being the last patent date. Left rear side of slide has rampant Colt and it has replacement front sight & orig equipment rnd top rear sight. Right side of slide is marked “MODEL OF 1911. U.S. NAVY”. Left front side of frame is marked “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” and it has the “WGP” (Maj. Walter G. Penfield) inspector initials above magazine release. Bbl is proper orig equipment with the “P” & “H” initials perpendicular to bore. Fitted with diamond checkered walnut grips & accompanied by an orig 2-tone lanyard loop magazine. There were only about 14,500 Navy Contract 1911’s built prior to 1924 and very few of those survive intact today. And of those, very few have very much orig condition. Most of them saw heavy service during WWI & WWII with both the Navy & Marine Corps and remained in service into the 1970’s & 80’s. CONDITION: Very fine. Slide retains about 90% orig blue, somewhat thinned over top with a cleaned area around front sight. Frame retains 95-97% strong orig blue with a few minor light scratches. Grips are sound with a few minor chipped diamonds & show light wear. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore. 4-35000 JR162 (4,000-7,000)
