*A.H. FOX XE GRADE SIDE BY SIDE SHOTGUN. SN 24643. Cal. 12 ga. 32″ Chromox bbls, tapered matted concave rib, dual ivory sighting beads, MOD/MOD choke, 2-3/4″ chambers, ejectors and dbl triggers. Sides of each chamber have 1-3/4″ wedge of oak leaf scroll engraving. Top of right bbl marked “CHROMOX FLUID COMPRESSED STEEL” and left bbl “MADE BY A.H. FOX GUN CO. PHILA. PA. U.S.A.”. The rebated frame is engraved in standard “X” style of bold oak leaf scroll, oval of 2 ducks in flight and “ANSLEY H. FOX” on left side, two quail in flight and “ANSLEY H. FOX” on right side, circle with upward looking fox on bottom center, trigger guard has oak leaf scroll and shield with initials “MAR”. Mounted in highly figured walnut with sculpted checkered side panels, checkered rnd knob pistol grip with “M.A.R.” stamped in grip, vented white line recoil pad and black 1/4″ spacer, and checkered splinter forend with schnabel ebony tip insert. Bore diameter: left -.727, right -.727. Bore restrictions: left -.013, right -.012. Wall thickness: left -.027, right -.026. Drop at heel: 2-3/4″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight: 7lbs. 2oz. LOP 14-11/16″. Gun is accompanied with a Griffin & Howe letter identifying gun as being in the consigned inventory of Abercrombie & Fitch on December 12, 1949, consigned by Mrs. M.A. Ramirez. Identifying gun as 12 ga., XE grade, 32″ bbls, 2-3/4″ chambers with ejectors, FULL/FULL choke, weighing 7lbs 2oz., 2-3/4″ drop at heel, 1-1/2″ drop at comb, 14-5/8″ LOP, 1/2 pistol grip, accompanied by a leg-o-mutton case. It further goes on to state the gun was sold to H.P. Bingham in the New York store September 6, 1950 for $195.00. An additional letter from Griffin & Howe give some background on the consignor as Mrs. Maximilian Arther Ramirez, whose husband was a Cuban born physician and resided on Park Avenue, the purchaser was Harry Payne Bingham, who was a director of the First National Bank of New York, and resided on Park Avenue in the mid 1930’s & 40’s, and in additional there are other documents identifying Mr. Bingham and Mrs. Ramirez. Still accompanying gun is the leg-o-mutton case marked “Dr. Maximilian A. Ramirez.” and a paper end label “Abercrombie & Fitch New York”. Outside of lid has paper label with hand written SN of gun. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retain 95% orig blue, some faint muzzle wear, numerous tiny nicks & light scratches and some faint thinning in forearm area, rub mark on bottom of bbls from forend. Receiver retains 97% orig case hardening, lightly silvering on sharp edges and thinning across bottom. Trigger guard shows strong orig blue across bow and silvered through grip area. Stock is sound with a grain crack running from flute of comb down into the checkering on right side of grip, normal light scratches, nicks & dings retaining its orig finish. Forend is sound with good checkering, grain crack from forend iron forward on lower right side, normal minor nicks & dings and retains its orig finish. Mechanics are crisp with auto-safety, strong ejectors, good bore with some light frosting. Leg-o-mutton case is in good condition with some moderate scuffing and a replacement locking tab. 4- 39160 BDT62 (6,500-9,500)
