QING DYNASTY HEAVILY CARVED SOAPSTONE BRUSH POT. 19th century. This fine example in green and amber soapstone carved depicting a gathering of animated sages in a mountainous landscape framed within mountains, bridges and a village. The opposing scene featuring a central Buddha surrounded by lesser sages and scribes all within a similar landscape. The underside stamped with an Imperial Qing Dynasty mark, possibly Qianlong reign (1736-1795). SIZE: 6-1/4″ h x 5-1/2″ dia. PROVENANCE: Property of Prince Duan Aixinjueluo Zaiyi (1856-1922). From the private collection of the grandniece of the Last Emperor Puyi (reign 1906-1917) of the Qing Dynasty. Granddaughter of Puji and great-great granddaughter of the Dowager Empress Cixi (reign 1861-1908). CONDITION: Very good overall with rich coloration and detailed carving. 9-22135 (4,000-6,000)
