WINCHESTER MODEL 1886 LEVER ACTION TAKEDOWN RIFLE. Cal. 45-90. SN 113426. Standard grade rifle with 26” tapered oct bbl, full magazine, nicely figured, uncheckered wood having straight stock & crescent steel buttplate. It has half-nickel front sight & semi-buckhorn rear sight. Accompanied by a Winchester Museum letter identifying this rifle as having been shipped Nov. 7, 1899 (the Madis Dates of Manufacture book indicates that it was manufactured in 1898). CONDITION: About very good. Retains an overall medium dark plum brown patina with traces of blue in the very sheltered areas. Receiver has a couple of scratches on the left side with some fine pitting on the right side. Magazine tube has fine pitting. Wood is sound and retains most of an old refinish. Strong bright bore with fine pitting. 4-51565 JR768 (1,500-2,500)
