*WINCHESTER MODEL 1886 TAKEDOWN LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. SN 154003. Late production rifle with 26” rnd bbl, full magazine, ivory bead Marble’s front sight and 3-leaf express carbine sight. The receiver is mounted with a Lyman #21 long receiver sight with fine windage adjustment knob. The wood is uncheckered with a straight stock & crescent steel buttplate. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum yellow sheet identifying this rifle and indicating it was received in the warehouse on July 12, 1918 with no shipment date indicated to Order #45982. CONDITION: Very fine plus. Bbl retains 94-95% strong original blue with some light chemical spotting on the top. Magazine tube retains 96-98% strong original blue and the forend cap is mostly a light blue patina with light chemical spotting. Receiver retains about 95% strong bright blue overall with the left side strong & bright, and the right side & bottom slightly thinned, with a few scratches. Wood is sound and retains about 95% varnish on the buttstock and 88-90% varnish on the forearm. There are the usual handling & use marks with a bruise & scratches on the forearm.
