ORIGINAL JAMES MONTGOMERY FLAGG WATERCOLOR. An original watercolor on paper illustration by one of America’s most famous of all patriotic cartoonist and artist, James Montgomery Flagg. Flagg was extremely active during the First World War, and his patriotic recruiting poster, “I Want You for the U.S. Army” depicting Uncle Sam pointing directly at the viewer is an American icon. The image has been used over 80 years. Flagg literally modeled for his own images of Uncle Sam by dressing in an Uncle Sam uniform standing in front of a full-length mirror and painted each scene utilizing himself as the model. This wonderful original artwork, probably done in the teens or twenties, depicts a most important and patriotic message for the youth of any nation to strive for integrity, honesty, and service “Every Arrow Feels the Pull of the Earth-to Hit the Mark Aim High”. Apparently originally painted for the United States Historical Society, and so marked in the lower left-hand corner. Signed by Flagg in the lower right-hand corner. Nicely matted in patriotic colors of red, white, and blue in a contemporary frame. SIZE: Image only: 23-1/4″ wide x 17-3/4″ tall.
