WINCHESTER MODEL 1897 “DOUBLE-W” CARTRIDGE BOARD. Spectacular board 49″ x 31-1/2″ image size consisting of a total of 182 cartridges, seven grooved & eight paper patch bullets, eleven paper & nine brass shot shells, nine cap & primer tins, all mounted on a heavy cardboard background with primary green color having a center vignette of two hunters with Winchester rifles observing a dead bear. There are two other vignettes of a flying mallard and a bull moose. It has the usual logos & legends. It is mounted in a gold lined oak frame that appears to be the original and it has the original decal in the center on the back with the stencil number “2043” towards the lower right center. CONDITION: Board is fly specked with a few scrapes and light handling marks with the color slightly faded. Vignettes are all fine with the center one sharp & crisp, lightly faded. Cartridges appear to be original, generally in good shape with some slight oxidation on the casings and to the lead bullets. A few of the casings are showing minor deterioration from galvanic corrosion (two dissimilar metals in close contact with humidity). Primer and cap boxes also appear to be in fine condition. A few of the cartridges appear to have been reattached but do not distract from the board. Four corner-support braces in the back are missing. 4-54113 JR735 (14,000-20,000)
