LANE & READ COMPOSITE MUSKET.

LANE & READ COMPOSITE MUSKET. Cal 70. Appears to have been assembled from various military and commercial parts with a 33-1/4” rd bbl, a back action Lane & Read lock, mounted in a 3/4 length 1-pc stock, iron furniture with a brass tip ramrod, brass trigger guard and buttplate. The stock has military swivels and the trigger guard has provision for a sling swivel also. The top of the wrist is mounted with a brass plate which contains a clever adaptation of a musket rear sight attached to a windage screw. CONDITION: Good to very good. Bbl retains a medium brown patina and the stock has a crack in the butt. Otherwise is sound and retains some original finish with black chemical streaking. Good mechanics. 4-50757 JR40 (300-500)
