BALLARD SPORTING RIFLE. Cal. 38 RF/38 Perc. SN 18967. Small sporting rifle with 24” oct bbl, brass blade front sight and a broken 2-position rear sight. Receiver has Merrimack Arms markings with two open tang sight screw holes in top of wrist. Mounted with nicely figured, uncheckered, straight grain, American walnut with straight stock & crescent steel buttplate. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl retains about 90% dull orig blue. Receiver is silvered case colors with traces of case colors inside lever. Stock has a couple of hairlines in wrist and forearm is missing a sliver on each side at front end, otherwise wood is sound and retains about 95% orig varnish with usual handling & use marks and some heat crazing on right side of buttstock. Mechanics are fine, strong dark bore. 4-30055 JR30 (1,500-2,500)
