SPECIAL ORDER WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal 38WCF (38-40). SN 75560. Scarce 2nd model rifle with screwed on dust cover rail, 24” oct. to rnd bbl, button magazine and about 2X uncheckered wood with straight stock and crescent steel buttplate with trap. The bbl is mounted with half-nickel front sight and early style, short, semi-buckhorn rear sight with checkered edges. The receiver, lever, hammer, and forend cap are case colored. CONDITION: Very fine plus. Bbl retains 92-94% strong bright original blue with 2 or 3 spots of pitting and some light surface spotting. Receiver retains about 80% original case colors muted and fading but strong and bright in the sheltered areas particularly on the left side and top of the receiver. Loading gate retains 92-93% bright original blue. Lever retains about 50% case colors and the hammer about 90%. Forend cap retains 75-80% faded case colors. Buttplate is silvered case colors mixed with brown patina. Wood is sound and retains about 95% original oil finish. Good mechanics and bright shiny bore. 4-50508 JR164 (3,000-6,000)
