WINCHESTER MODEL 1866 SADDLE RING CARBINE. Cal. 44 RF Henry. SN 162541. Late production 4th model with iron mountings, 20″ rnd bbl, full magazine and late style front magazine band. It has a square base barleycorn front sight and a later carbine express sight with two broken leaves. It is fitted with straight grain walnut and an iron carbine buttplate with trap and has a staple and ring in the left side of the receiver. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter identifying this carbine as having been received in the warehouse June 22, 1883 and shipped March 25, 1884 to Order #11408. CONDITION: Good. Iron all retains a dark brown patina with light surface pitting. Bbl markings are clear, loading gate is a replacement as is the rear sight. Receiver is clean with a few minor nicks & dings around the lever screw and has been polished a long time ago but is now beginning to patinate. Wood is sound showing moderate wear with usual handling & use marks. Mechanics are fine, strong frosty bore with a ring about 2-1/2″ from the muzzle. 4-54047 JR41 (3,000-5,000)
