SCARCE WINCHESTER MODEL 1876 EXPRESS RIFLE. Cal. 50-95. SN 17697. Standard grade 2nd model rifle with 26” rnd bbl, full magazine, front sight missing its blade and an early semi-buckhorn rear sight. The dust cover is marked “Winchester Express / 50 CAL 95 GRS” and the bottom of the carrier is marked “50-95”. It has uncheckered wood with straight stock & crescent buttplate with trap. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter identifying this rifle and indicating it was shipped Oct. 7, 1881 to Order #28623. CONDITION: About very good. Bbl & magazine tube retain about 50% original blue mixed with medium light brown patina and has strong blue in the sheltered areas. Receiver retains about 75% thin, original blue with the balance a gray/brown patina. Wood is sound with a fine old hand rubbed patina with nicks & scratches and a gouge on the buttstock and a series of scratches on the left side of the buttstock. It has good mechanics and a strong bright bore with light pitting and a couple spots of heavier pitting. 4-51491 JR800 (7,500-10,000)
