*RARE NICKEL FINISH 2ND YEAR PRODUCTION COLT SUPER 38 SEMI-AUTO PISTOL. SN 6753. Cal. 38 Super. Nickel finish with 5″ bbl, fixed sights and smooth pearl grips with a carved American eagle & shield on left side. Accompanied by one orig nickel plated magazine with marked base and a burgundy hinged lid Colt box with super 38 blue & white label on the end. SN on bottom of box appears to be “33539”. Also accompanied by an orig Super 38 bi-fold pamphlet which does not mention nickel finish in the specifications. Pistols in 38 Super caliber were and are very popular in Mexico and South American countries due to the prohibition on owning military caliber firearms. Nickel finish pistols in the pre-war models are very scarce as nickel was special order until about 1935 when it became a standard option. This pistol was produced in 1930. PROVENANCE: John Irwin Estate Collection. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Overall retains 96-97% strong orig factory nickel with some minor sharp edge losses on slide and a small area of light pitting on right side of frame at edge of grip and under the grip. There is also some fine pitting on sharp edge of slide. Grips are sound with an age line on each side and retain great fire & color. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore. Box has taped edges with a couple of broken corners. 4-36815 JR45 (3,000-5,000)
