FINE WINCHESTER HIGH WALL SPORTING RIFLE. Cal. 25 WCF (25-20). SN 41287. Fine, light sporting rifle with 28” No. 1 weight oct to rnd bbl, Beaches gold washed, combination front sight, semi-buckhorn rear sight and a Lyman loop, s-code tang sight. Mounted with uncheckered, straight grain, American walnut with black insert, semi-schnable tipped forearm & straight stock with crescent buttplate. This rifle is somewhat unusual in that it was made in 1889 but undoubtedly delivered at a later date as the cartridge was reportedly not developed until the early 1890’s. CONDITION: Extremely fine, near new. Retains virtually all of its wonderful, orig factory finish to both metal & wood with bright blue on the bbl & brilliant case colors on receiver. Lever retains most of its orig case colors, brilliant on sides, fading on outer edge. Buttplate retains 65-70% faded case colors, mixed with light surface rust. Wood is sound with a couple of small scratches on buttstock and light handling & storage marks. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bore. This is a little-used high wall in a hard to find caliber. 4-30395 JR306 (4,500-7,500)
