*SCARCE A.H. FOX HE GRADE SUPER FOX SIDE BY SIDE SHOTGUN. SN 32517. Cal. 12ga, 32″ bbls, matted, tapered, concave rib, dual ivory sighting beads, FULL/FULL choke, 3″ chambers, ejectors and single selective trigger. Top of right bbl is marked “CHROMOX FLUID COMPRESSED STEEL” and left bbl “MADE BY A.H. FOX GUN CO. PHILA. PA. U.S.A.” Bbl flats are marked “3 IN. AND BARRELS NOT GUARANTEED-SEE TAG”. Each bbl in front of flats stamped with “0”. The Super Fox frame has minimal border engraving and each side engraved “ANSLEY H. FOX”. Mounted with nicely figured straight grain walnut, checkered pistol grip, Fox marked sculpted hard rubber grip cap, Hawkins vented recoil pad with 1/4″ black spacer, checkered beavertail forend that has matching serial number stamped on inside. Bore diameter: left -.739, right -.739. Bore restrictions: left -.047, right -.046. Wall thickness: left -.033, right -.032. Drop at heel:3″, drop at comb:1-5/8″. Weight: 9lbs. 4oz. LOP 14-1/4″. Accompanied with a John T. Callahan A.H. Fox letter identifying as HE Grade, 12ga, 32″, FULL/FULL choke, 14-1/8″ LOP, 3″ drop at heel, 8lbs. 14oz., full pistol grip, single trigger, chamber for 3″ shells. Shipped July 27, 1928. Original consignee Whitefield Hardware Company, no address provided. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbls retain 97-98% orig blue with a few minor nicks & scratches, faint muzzle wear and rub mark from forend. The receiver retains 85% strong orig case colors, thinning and blending with silver patina across balance point. Trigger guard carries good orig blue across bow and silvering through grip area. Stock is sound with nice checkering, handling marks, nicks & dings, a shallow linear scratch running 5″ on comb, some minor chips on pistol grip cap and retains an orig finish blending with hand-worn patina. Forend is sound with good checkering, typical nicks & dings. Appears to be a factory forend perhaps added by Savage and retains orig finish blending with hand-worn patina. Mechanics are crisp with automatic safety, strong ejectors, shiny bores with a tiny shallow pit in right bbl. 4-39861 BDT86 (4,500-7,500)
