WILLIAM LESTER STEVENS (American, 1888-1969) OUTSIDE THE ARTIST’S STUDIO. Oil on masonite winter scene shows the edge of a porch with a stairway leading down to a dirt road with a large tree. Heavy snow has accumulated and light shines from behind the house, across the further trees and onto the dirt road. Signed lower right “W Lester Stevens N.A.”. Housed in a painted gray molded wood frame. This example shows Stevens mastery of thinning his oils and capturing the mood and light of the moment.
