He re-enlisted on March 20, 1865 in H Company Illinois 9th Cavalry and was mustered out Oct. 31, 1865 in Selma, Alabama. He re-enlisted in the regular Army on Sept. 13, 1867 and retired July 9, 1900. No additional information was readily available at this time although with that length of service a military record should be available. Accompanied by a small packet of information of family history which indicates that Mr. Nickerson was born in 1845 and apparently died in about 1920, intestate, with a substantial estate for that day, that passed to his half brother, Daniel Herbert Fish in Vermont. Included in this inheritance was approx. $27,000 in cash, some jewelry and ten building lots that he owned in Steele, ND. In addition there allegedly were 35 trunks full of belongings including clothing, letters, diaries, bags of coins, linens, dinnerware, artifacts, Indian artifacts and books. This revolver was apparently found in one of the trunks and has been passed down through the Fish family until it was sold to the consignor. Another entry in the provenance states that in 1904 Mr. Nickerson was awarded the rank of Major in retirement. Mr. Nickerson’s estate was probated in the State of New York and would be available for review as a public record. CONDITION: Very fine, all matching including cyl & grips.
